Hepworth visit

Hepworth visit

Today I had a little free time to do something I enjoy, visiting galleries and exhibitions. Im lucky enough to have The Hepworth near my home and after Simon recommended the photography exhibition going on down there I thought id go take a look.

The main exhibition of photographs were from Philip-Lorca diCorcia. Im not that into photography but was very impressed with his work. It can provoke so many emotions ranging from shock, to sadness, to been aw inspired. I would guess he was a kind of documentary based photographer, I love his arial shots though.

The sepia sort of color here helps demonstrate a gritty sort of feel within this environment of Mexico  Shows how tone and use of color can help provoke emotion, in this case quite dark emotions.

Love the vast sense of scale in this photograph its really helped and strengthened by the huge print size.

Found a few examples of some publication design, love how this example breaks out of the grid and was created in the 1930s yet looks like some modern design you would see today. Really shows how past art movements and styles has paved a way for todays design style society has adopted.

The Hepworth has a new exhibition space over the road from the main building called the Calder, a very industrial and gritty building that barely looked safe to enter. It was here were Haggard Caravan was exhibited, an experimental sound and sculpture installation from a collaboration of artists Tobias Madison, Emanuel Rossetti and Stefan Tcherenpin.

Found this glitchy kind of publication that presented the abstract sound waves you can here within the exhibition space, there media they used through this publication and the sculpture itself use physical sculpting, photography, body text, music, typography. They all engage with the gallery space to create a very surreal and dark feel.

Physical sculpture.
