Expanding on Study Task 1 - Review your identity

Expanding on Study Task 1 - Review your identity

After undergoing a variety of briefs that gave opportunity for a range of outcomes exploring varied creative disciplines I believe that my specialism is still branding but through the range of outcomes I have created this year I see opportunity for all other skill sets when it comes to creating a well executed branding outcome.

I certainly agree with points made in the crit at the start of the year about my conceptual approach to solving a design problem so this is certainly a strength I will play on within  my visual identity and promotion material.

Points where made about geometric aesthetics, while I agreed on this at the time I see this now as more of a consideration to the technical aspects of design and attention to detail and clarity, grid systems, layout, typography and physical production of work expressed this a lot so this attention to detail to every stage of a design journey is something that needs to be expressed.

I mentioned sustainability in the initial crit based on creating a cost effective resolution for both production but also the actual aesthetics and message, it needs to stay current and up to date so I dont need to spend money redesigning and reproducing my brand. I feel this element of sustainability has been explored through a lot of my work, I look at history and the past, current trends and the potential of the future when creating a concept idea targeted at a specific audience. I see this as something that has been benefited by thorough problem analysis and research so this is something that potentially needs to be expressed.

After starting out in level 4 with quite an analogue approach to design I feel this has expanded a lot but not in terms of traditional illustration but more in the way I approach image, type and the physical final resolution of a piece of work with a hands on approach. A more multi disciplinary approach is taken now with a range of potential media and production methods both modern, traditional and technological aspects explored to fully support a certain idea of message.

I still see it appropriate that I expressed my creative practice as a journey from A-B in my level 4 resolution for my personal promo pack, but this journey has a more specific direction  now rather than been a before and after snapshot of how I started the year and how I ended the year.

These aspects will be expanded on to to begin resolving my brand identity, web presence and collateral.

A book that really helped me and our group through the taking care of business brief and brand oriented modules was Designing Brand Identity by Alina Wheeler and alongside my personal idea generation and research will provide great guidance on producing a strong Branding outcome.
